This is the Oklahoma state category. Oklahoma's capital city is Oklahoma City, and its postal abbreviation is OK. Oklahoma entered the Union as the 46th state, on November 16, 1907. It is the 19th largest state, with an area of 69,903 square miles. Oklahoma is located in south central United States. Much of the region was acquired by the USA from France in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The Oklahoma Territory was merged with the Indian Territory to form the state of Oklahoma in 1907. The western part of the state is on the Great Plains, while the east is mountainous. Oklahoma is drained primarily by the Arkansas River and the Red River. The oil and natural gas industries undergird Oklahoma's wealth, although wheat and cotton as well as livestock are important agricultural products.
