This is the Idaho state category. Idaho's capital city is Boise, and its postal abbreviation is ID. Idaho entered the Union as the 43rd state, on July 3, 1890. It is the 11th largest state, with an area of 83,574 square miles. The state is located in northwestern United States, and borders Canada. Gold discoveries in 1860 brought many immigrants, although the Native-American population was not subdued until 1877. Idaho's terrain is dominated by the Rocky Mountains and is drained mainly by the Snake River, whose waters are used for irrigation and to generate hydroelectric power.
